With Neschome, I bring Jewish and Chassidic music to the concert stage. Together with my band, I combine traditional melodies with jazz and contemporary arrangements — shaped by my work as a cantor and our shared musical expression.

The Project

From Tradition to the Stage

Many of the melodies I sing with Neschome have been with me since childhood. They come from Jewish communal life, from Chassidic tradition, and from my repertoire as a cantor.

With the band, these pieces take on a new musical shape. Familiar melodies meet jazz harmonies, rhythmic accents, and the interplay of experienced musicians. Their original character remains audible throughout.

Neschome is the concert side of my musical work: personal in repertoire, open in interpretation, and shaped by making music together.

The Music

Between Cantorial Singing and Jazz

The voice is at the center, accompanied by piano, bass, drums, and saxophone. The arrangements range from stripped-back passages to the full sound of the band.

Chassidic melodies and cantorial motifs form the starting point. Sometimes the melody stands alone; sometimes the band takes it up and carries it further musically. Quiet pieces alternate with rhythmic, energetic moments.

The program speaks to people familiar with Jewish music as well as to an audience discovering it for the first time.

A Concert Program for Your Stage

Neschome is available for concerts, festivals, cultural events, and Jewish communities in Austria and internationally.

Whether the venue is a concert hall, cultural center, museum, or synagogue: the program, lineup, and length are tailored to fit the setting of your event.

Alongside a performance with the full band, smaller lineups are also possible. I'm happy to discuss which formation suits your venue and the planned evening.

About Michael Kaner

Cantor, Singer, and Bandleader

Born in Vienna and raised in a Chassidic household, Jewish music has been part of my life since childhood. After five years at a yeshiva in Israel, I sang for ten years as a tenor in the choir of the Vienna Great Synagogue under Chief Cantor Shmuel Barzilai.

Today I work as a cantor and, with Neschome, develop my own musical interpretation of this repertoire.
